The Vision
Initially, these homeowners came to Interior Elite with a clear goal: turn an older house into a functional, beautiful home they could be proud of for years to come.
They wanted:
- A “picture-perfect” interior that still felt warm, welcoming, and easy to live in.
- A bright, open main floor where family and friends could gather comfortably.
- Smart, pet-friendly features that made life easier with three dogs, including an energetic German Shepherd.
- A primary suite that felt like a private retreat, complete with spa-inspired finishes and smart windows.

The Process

Step 1: Structural Re-Engineering
The clients envisioned a large sectional as the centrepiece of their family room, but a critical basement support post stood exactly where the furniture needed to go. Rather than compromising on the layout, we completed a structural upgrade and relocated the support post. This technical solution allowed for the open, obstruction-free layout–without compromising the home’s structural integrity.
Step 2: Mechanical Systems Integration
Modernizing an older home often means upgrading to high-efficiency systems, but standard HVAC installations usually require bulkheads that lower ceiling heights—a dealbreaker for clients wanting a “bright, open-concept” vibe. To solve this, the construction team utilized innovative framing coordination to reroute HVAC lines through alternative pathways. This approach successfully integrated modern climate control while maintaining original ceiling heights.
Step 3: Layout & Flow Redesign
The original kitchen was compact and limited, posing a significant challenge for a family that loves hosting. To build a functional space, Interior Elite’s in-house design team reconfigured the kitchen layout and included a custom island. The team also reimagined the upper floor to create a new primary suite and powder room.
Step 4: Custom Finishing & Pet-Friendly Features
The final hurdle was creating a home that was “picture-perfect” yet durable enough for everyday living. Standard finishes were replaced with tailored, pet-friendly solutions, including a custom-built dog bath and a built-in dog water trough in the kitchen island. Additional custom details included smart-glass windows in the ensuite for instant privacy, detailed millwork, custom wainscoting, and arched bookcases that added timeless character to the modern design.

Throughout the build, the homeowners worked closely with the Interior Elite team and were involved every step of the way. The result? A finished home renovation that showcases thoughtful design, structural expertise, and high-quality construction.
